The ASQ Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) certification is for professionals who operate in support of or under the supervision of a Six Sigma Black Belt, analyze and solve quality problems, and are involved in quality improvement projects. A Green Belt is someone with at least three years of work experience who wants to demonstrate their knowledge of Six Sigma tools and processes.

Exam Format:

  • Number of Questions: 110 multiple-choice questions for the computer-based test (100 scored and 10 unscored pretest questions). For the paper-based test, there are 100 scored questions.
  • Duration: 4 hours and 18 minutes of exam time (total appointment time is 4.5 hours for CBT). For PBT, the exam duration is 4 hours.
  • Delivery: Computer-based testing (CBT) through ASQ's testing partner, Prometric. Paper-based testing (PBT) may be available in certain locations and languages (e.g., Mandarin).
  • Open Book: The exam is open-book, meaning candidates can bring their own reference materials, which must be bound. Loose sheets and multiple-choice questions are not allowed.
  • Passing Score: ASQ uses a scaled scoring system, requiring a minimum score of 550 out of 750 to pass.

Exam Content (Body of Knowledge): The CSSGB Body of Knowledge (BoK) is divided into six main sections:

  1. Overview: Six Sigma and the Organization (11 questions): Six Sigma and organizational goals, Lean principles in the organization, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.
  2. Define Phase (23 questions): Project identification, voice of the customer (VOC), project management basics, management and planning tools, business results for projects, team dynamics and performance.
  3. Measure Phase (23 questions): Process analysis and documentation, probability and statistics, statistical distributions, collecting and summarizing data, measurement system analysis (MSA), process and performance capability.
  4. Analyze Phase (15 questions): Exploratory data analysis, hypothesis testing.
  5. Improve Phase (15 questions): Design of experiments (DOE), root cause analysis, Lean tools.
  6. Control Phase (11 questions): Statistical process control (SPC), control plan, Lean tools for process control.

The number of questions per section is approximate and may vary.

Eligibility Requirements: Candidates must have three years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge. Experience must be in a full-time, paid role. Educational waivers are not granted for this exam.
